The one thing that I think we've all appreciated about the last two years is how important making is to how we feel whether it's baking bread, creating art or making shoes.

We've enjoyed continuing to make bespoke shoes; filming and editing "Handsewn Shoe Making" video modules to support students unable to travel; and running one-to-one classes when Government guidance allowed. But we've missed the day-to-day enthusiasm, ideas and energy that having groups of aspiring makers in the workshop brings.

So we're excited to see travel opening up in 2022 and are looking forward to welcoming students from all over the world once again to the workshop.

As ever, we offer tailored training alongside scheduled classes. There are new shoe pattern classes and a trainer (sneaker) making course, as well as the six-strong video training series. We also answer your questions and offer guidance and support via Zoom, email and social media to help you to pursue your shoe making dreams wherever you are.

Our pedigree...a recap

  • We’ve been teaching handsewn shoemaking since 2006
  • We both completed traditional shoemaking apprenticeships with a master shoemaker and have been making shoes for over 20 years
  • We teach to a high standard using the same tools and materials that we use in our shoemaking e.g. Baker’s leather
  • We encourage training with other makers once you have the basic skills
  • We sell kits, tools and materials to keep you going – Carréducker shoemaking students receive a 20% discount
  • We were both previously visiting lecturers at University of the Arts

SHOE SCHOOL

Starting with course notes, a pack of leather, lasts and uppers we guide you through the 200+ steps in the handsewn process to make a pair of shoes. Please visit here to find out more about the courses below.

LEATHER WORKSHOPS

We love and respect leather as a material and source our leathers from small tanneries with strong sustainable and environmental credentials. We believe that we have a duty to use as much of the skin of an animal as possible and so we have created a series of Discover Making kits to encourage making at home and offer a series of Introduction to Leather Work classes that use up off-cuts from our shoemaking activities.

GROUP AND TEAM BUILDING EXPERIENCES

One of the most relaxed and fun ways to get to know your friends or colleagues better is to learn something new together.

We offer a selection of workshops either face-to-face (Government guidelines permitting) or on Zoom designed for groups of up to 10 people. You can find out more about the classes here.
