IT'S OUR BIRTHDAY!
Welcome back good shoe folk and, ignoring all the political stuff going on here in the UK, this week is important for another reason - 15 years ago James and I founded Carreducker! We can't believe it either! From sole traders to a Limited Liability Partnership and now Limited Company here we are 15 years on and still going strong.
So forgive us as we take a nostalgic look back through the years...
From the early days
Atelier Carre |
Atelier Carre customer boots |
working together, our design aesthetic has evolved...
becoming more focused and and considered |
We set up our own Bespoke Club and launched with a party or two, generously co-hosted by Alma Leathers and Gentlemen's Tonic
and have since dipped our toe into retail
Wolf & Badger |
and Susannah Hall Tailors |
The 'face' of Carreducker has matured and grown more hursuit
We've had a wonderful home at Cockpit Arts first in a shared studio with jewellery alchemist Angie Boothroyd, wind instrument maker and repairer Richard Mattingly and jewellery designer Ute Decker...
...and then on our own in W9
and now we've flown the nest to Chocolate Studios in Shoreditch
50 Chocolate Studios opening party |
We found a second home at Gieves & Hawkes
For three years in the priceless 'goldfish bowl' |
...our shop-in-shop where customers could watch shoes being made |
then downstairs amongst the skilled team of the cutting room
and more recently at James Purdey & Son
and now at our own bespoke showroom at 50
We've held events everywhere from Paradise...
and the Griffin Gallery to the MPH Show and Goodwood Revival with Eloise Gray
as well as trunk shows to Chicago and New York
We've exhibited as part of the Craft Council's Added Value exhibition
at Origin |
Added Value |
at Makers of the Exceptional at the Royal Academy
London Craft Week at Somerset House, Gieves & Hawkes, Purdey and the Leathersellers
and now as part of the permanent exhibition at the Design Museum London
Design Museum opening night |
Design Museum party |
Part of our exhibit |
We've partied and demonstrated shoemaking
at Buckingham Palace |
the Make More Festival |
at No.10 as part of London Craft Week |
and are very proud to have received
the Balvenie Masters of Craft Award |
the Heritage Craft Association Marsh Made in Britain Aaward |
and the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust Award for Excellence
We've had a lot of laughter, occasional tears, and our ups and downs but that's part and parcel of running a business.
We're privileged to have met and worked with so many wonderful people along the way, to be part of an amazing international community of craftsmen and to be practising a trade that still excites both of us as much as it did when we first began.
We'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us, advised us, championed us, worked with us and come to learn alongside us...we hope you'll come on the journey for the next 10 years.
Until next week, happy shoemaking!
To 'Flossie'
