There are two exciting new exhibitions opening this year, one at the Victoria and Albert Museum here in London; Shoes, Pleasure and Pain
Both well worth a visit...and we only wish we had time when we are in New York in May to 'pop up' to Toronto. Maybe later in the year.
We have already had a taster of what is to come at the VandA exhibition. We had a 'works outing' and booked in a visit to the glorious Victoria and Albert Museum archives. They are recently re-housed in The Clothworkers Centre. As you can see, it is a beautiful building in its own right...
...but the facilities and size of the Centre are unsurpassed.
and even the reception area has an amazing collection of toys through the years to whet your appetite...
So, next time you are planning a trip to London we wholeheartedly recommend booking an appointment to view items in the archive. You have to select what you would like to see and then it is laid out for you on a table to photograph and sketch from. You cannot touch the items but one of the Centre's team is on hand to turn items so that you can see them from different angles.

Exciting detailing when we are designing for peacocks in the future!
In researching the Bata Shoe Museum exhibition, we also stumbled across another great source of footwear images and know-how in the form of Jonathan Walford who used to be the curator of the museum. Jonathan writes a fascinating blog including footwear, but sadly doesn't have a 'Follow', 'Search' or 'Subscribe' button so you have to keep visiting to see new posts. A bit of a nuisance, but ultimately well worth the effort. The boots below are one of my favourites both in the delicacy of the texture and of the colour. I would love to make a pair like this!
That's it for this week - we hope that we have shared some interesting sources of inspiration. Until next week when we hope to unveil our new shoe making studio...happy shoemaking!
